Here comes the Memorial! Get out your Wallets!
So Jack’s tournament is in town. This is THE event where the golf enthusiasts and the social butterflies who pretend to be golf enthusiasts gather for the next four days. This year there has been some concern that the cost of the tickets would impact attendance. Let’s face it…it is a pricey event! I know this first hand from my adventures in trying to buy tickets for family members. Believe me, if there is an attendance concern you wouldn’t know it by the hoops you have to jump through to get a coveted golden ticket to the Golden Bears’ tourney!
First of all, if you want a badge for the run of the tournament, Thurs. through Sunday , that will run you $155 + tax, direct from the tournament itself. There are no single day tickets, so you must buy a weekly badge. Not a bad deal if you want to go all 4 days, but very few people do. Besides that, I do have four badges I would need for just one or two days and that is crazy expensive!
Then, there are the brokers who will sell you a single day ticket…but with tax- that will run you around $100 and then you must pick it up and return it to their badge center. OK, here’s the rub! They will charge you the shipping costs of $24.95 anyway-even though it isn’t being shipped and you are picking it up. So, a one day ticket will run you $125 and you have to do all the legwork! What a ripoff!
I still haven’t decided which way to go for family members yet. I guess I will base it on how nice each one has been to me! The “very kind” will get the weekly badges, while the unappreciative will get the ones you get gouged for and run around all weekend juggling “pick up” and “drop off” schedules. Of course, I am kidding, but it sounds about as fair and makes as much sense as the tournament pricing system!
