Harry Potter and the Sleep-Deprived Mom

I am not happy with Harry Potter today. Harry Potter has made me a delirious mess of a woman today! No, not because I caught a midnight premiere of the new installment last night. I am delirious because my son caught a midnight showing!

As you may guess, I get up early for work each day-3:30 to be exact. Sleep is always a precious commodity for me and typically a gift I rarely get. So, when Graham announced a couple of weeks ago that he and his girlfriend were planning to go to the midnight show, deep down I cringed a bit. I knew his fun meant my sleepless night. You see, I am and always will be, one of those parents who can’t sleep soundly until the kids are in the house and in bed. I come by it naturally; my parents were exactly the same!

Last night, I tossed and turned, and I stared at the clock hoping that somehow he would get in the door quicker and I would still salvage a bit of sleep. The last time I remember looking at the alarm clock’s taunting glare was 3:00.

Suddenly, at 3:30, I was jarred from sleep by my nemesis the alarm and I sprang from my comfortable nest straight into a state of panic! “Where was Graham?”, I cried!  ”It’s time for me to get ready for work!!!”

I called his phone…he picked up and then hung up! I did it again….he did it again! I was confused. Was he in the movie still? Where was he? I have to get ready to leave! Why would he not come home? I rang again….he did the same thing again!

Finally, I rang his phone, but this time I heard an echo down the hall. I followed the noise only to find him already in bed in his room with the phone ringing next to his ear.  He had been home sleeping! Vigilant me didn’t hear him come in, and worse still, he said we talked when he came in! I have no recollection of that whatsoever!

So, needless to say, I was one tired and still very confused  Momma today! Harry Potter you are a sleep snatching wizard!
