Growing up, my Beggar’s Night meant running from house to house as fast as I could with a big bag of goodies almost weighing as much as I did. I loved the moment it was over when I dumped it out on the family room floor to pick out my favorites and single out the duds! The duds to me were anything homemade. If there was a popcorn ball that I couldn’t attach a house to, it was pitched. I did kind of feel badly that I was tossing out something someone took painstaking time to make, but my budding germaphobia wouldn’t allow me the risk. Were you like me? Did you pass on the homemade goodies? I know, I probably missed out on one of life’s little Halloween pleasures. But guess what? It’s made me the woman I am today! Pass the Purell and ring the bell! Happy Halloween!

Thank you Sunny 95 listeners! You did it! You rose to the occasion yesterday, and picked up your Pink Frosty Shake at my Wendy’s location on Riverside Dr.! As a result, we more than doubled the competition’s efforts and walloped that “other guy” (whom I will keep anonymous out of respect .)! We Won! We Won! Actually the winner is all of us. The more attention we draw to breast cancer, the more likely we are to find a cure. Thank you! And yes, I enjoyed drinking my part in the challenge too! Hey…I told you I was competitive!
Oh, and our efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness month continue; join me this Sunday morning at COSI, for The American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer”, 5k run and walk. Registration begins at 8:30 with the race at 10. See you there!

There was a time-not so awfully long ago-when having Cydney join me on a jog meant she would rollerblade or bike beside me to keep up while I ran. She simply was too small and didn’t have the stamina to run 3 miles, but enjoyed “working out” with mom; and so she would ride or skate along.
Wow! How time flies! This past Tuesday, I picked Cydney up after school and she said she wanted to go for a run. Sure I thought, “a run”! Well, not only did the girl run, but she seemed to effortlessly bound out in front like some sort of gazelle! Suddenly, I was the one who could barely keep up with this future track star! Seriously, my pride was being severely trampled upon! I pushed it to keep up, but I knew I wasn’t running toward anything. Nope, I was pushing to run from something: the fact that I was not getting any younger and my baby was growing up! That’s a bittersweet realization for certain! And when the cramp in my side goes away, I might just have to cry a bit!

You know I have been called competitive on more than one occassion in my life. For the most part, I think it has been an asset in business and life in general. I am sure there have been times where it has been a detriment too-like when I coached Graham’s 4 year old soccer team and had a perfect season. I was…shall we say…a little carried away a times. In hindsight, I was ridiculously competitive with those little 4-6 year olds…they should have been allowed to pick dandelions! LOL! The funny thing is that I don’t even know where it comes from. My parents are laid back, and although they exercise, they are not particularily athletic people. I guess I must have found a recessive gene to latch onto somewhere in the womb!
This time though, there is a competition I am not going to apologize for…in fact, I am going to brag about it and shout it from the rafters! October, being “Breast Cancer Awareness” month, has been very busy for me. I had an appearance and my mammogram with the help of the James Cancer Hospital and Macy’s, at the start of the month…and I will emcee the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Event” this Sunday morning at COSI. Tomorrow though, is all about me getting a little competitive while we try to stamp out this disease! Join me between 11-1 PM, when I challenge Mark Dantzer from our sister station Mix 107.9, and we try to see who can sell the most Wendy’s Pink Frosty Shakes for Breast Cancer fundraising. It’s Drink Pink Day and I will be at the Wendy’s at 161/Riverside Drive, across form the corporate headquarters..he’ll be…uhm somewhere else….I can’t really remember. LOL! See how competitve I am!
Come join me for games and prizes too! See you at lunch time tomorrow (Thursday, October 22nd)!

What is going on in the house of the Balloon Boy. I get the sense there is more than a little foul play regarding the supposed trip the 6 year old took in the skies over Colorado, and the trip to nowhere the concerned police and rescue workers were taken on during a desperate search. The child of course was found safely (Thank God) in a box in an attic above the garage. As the story goes, he was scared of the fact the balloon got away and that he would be blamed. Is that true? If so, why did he tell the press that his dad said it would be a show? Somethiing doesn’t add up!
Questions I want answered: What is with his publicity seeking parents? Who goes on the show, “Wife Swap”, once-let alone twice? And what type of selfishness implores parents to parade this obviously sick child on multiple national and local TV shows while the boy barfs on camera…not once-but twice that I saw! These parents need to be investigated. Something isn’t right! Do you agree?

I am going to sound like a nagging spouse here, but I nag because I care! Ladies, have you gotten your mammograms? If not, what are you waiting for? I hope it isn’t for some revolutionary new procedure that is completely without a dose of humiliation or discomfort, because that is not likely anytime soon. I got my mammogram Friday, and I would just like to say it isn’t a horrible thing. It only takes about 30 minutes in total and it isn’t really that uncomfortable. Sure, they manhandle you to get the best images, but only because they have to do it that way. The most uncomfortable part for me is ripping those stickers off of my breasts after the fact! Who thought that adhesive on those things was “user friendly”? I swear the Gorilla Glue people came up with it!
Seriously though, get that mammogram! You owe it to YOU!

I admit it. I am horrible at remembering to give myself a monthly breast exam. I just don’t do it regularily and I have no excuses. It is such a simple thing to do and something that should just be part of every woman’s shower routine. I know, I know, I need to get with it and just do it! Every story I hear, from the far-too-many friends and relatves I know who have battled breast cancer, starts with finding a lump doing a self breast exam. So what’s my problem? I don’t know. I guess I am a little uncomfortable with it and even selfconscious…which in retrospect sounds ridiculous! I need to do a better job for sure! So, today, and from here on out, I make a pledge to do just that!
I am good about getting my regular mammogram though, and I will this Friday, Oct. 9th, at the JamesCare Mammography Clinic on the second floor at Macy’s Easton. Won’t you and your favorite ladies join me? Let’s catch this insidious disease early! See you friday 10-noon! There’s more to come on this event in tomorrow’s blog. So make plans to spend some time with me friday!

Meet Ardi. Ardi….better known as Ardipithicus ramidus, is now known to the world as the 4.4 million-year-old earliest precursor to humans. Now, this is not a debate between Creationism and Evolutionism-I know better than to swim in those controversial waters. But what this is instead is a find that has scientists-some from Ohio-all giddy.
Ardi is an old gal, and not much of a looker! She is said to resemble humans, and women specifically, and more so than any primate. (which is so heartening to know!) So, basically, if we were indeed 4 million years old ladies, we would be very busty but be covered in hair and have those crazy ape feet where the big toes jut out like thumbs! Try to slip a slingback Jimmy Choo over those things and go out for the evening! And I thought dating was tough now! We’ve come a long way baby!
 Ardi! What a looker!!!
